Introduction to RAINSMORE

RAINSMORE for ‘Raincell and Other Innovations, Satellites and Opportunistic Measurements from Telecommunication Networks, for Rainfall Estimation and Spatialization’ is an International Research Network (IRN) financed by the french Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD).

Présentation RAINSMORE

Our objectives

The objective of RAINSMORE is to develop and promote innovative approach to improve rainfall monitoring worldwide, for many applications like hydrology or climate monitoring.

Illustration des objectifs
  • Promote the Rain Cell technique, which uses the cellular telecommunications network to estimate rainfall.
  • Conducting research and numerous capacity-building activities, with thematic workshops and many students on board
  • RAINSMORE gathers an international team, with specialists of hydrometeorology and experts in data science or deep learning,
  • We are also interested in new ideas like the use of sound recorders for rainfall detection, a technique that we tested in Amazonia.

Our mission

  • Advanced rainfall monitoring 🌧️
  • Analysis of climate trends 📊
  • Development of innovative hydrology solutions 🛰️
  • Strengthening international scientific collaboration 🤝

RAINSMORE's main mission is to improve understanding of hydrological phenomena through the use of advanced technologies, in particular space observation and innovative sensors.
